Barry is a Chartered Engineer with over 20 years’ experience on projects across Ireland and Northern Ireland.

Over the years he has been involved in the design, supervision and management of a broad spectrum of construction projects including; healthcare, schools, mixed-use developments, retail parks, office developments, residential, refurbishment, conservation, industrial, pharmaceuticals, flood alleviation, windfarm developments, and electrical substations.

The first five years of Barry’s career were spent working for Fahy Fitzpatrick consulting Engineers. He then worked for Thomas Garland & Partners becoming an associate director in 2004.

In these roles Barry worked on projects for clients such as Abbott (Guidant), Forest Laboratories, Our Ladies Hospital for Sick Children, Mount Carmel Hospital, Various Schools, OPW as well as private developers such as City West Ltd. McGarrell Reilly and Harcourt Investments.

In 2006 Barry took up a role with McEnaney Developments as client representative and construction engineer, managing the construction of mixed-use developments with a combined value of €100 million.

In 2008 Barry took up a client representative role with Roycetone / Zoe Developments on the construction of Anglo-Irish Bank’s new headquarters valued at €90 million. This development stopped in late 2008 due to the downturn in the economy. It was later completed as the new Central Bank.

In 2009 Barry took up a role as Contracts Manager with Adman Civil Projects Limited, where he managed the civil and structural engineering works on several windfarm and substation projects. Clients included ESB Wind, ESB Networks, Energia, NIE, Powerteam, SSE / Airtricity and Gaelectric.

In 2015 Barry moved companies to become Construction Manager with Gaelectric Developments Ltd. In this role he successfully delivered a joint venture, multi-windfarm and grid connection project which had a build cost of €67 million (Ballybay, Foyle and Cnoc Windfarms).

On completion of this joint venture project in 2017 Barry joined DRA as a Director and took on the exciting challenge of establishing its Dublin office, which he now manages.

Barry has undertaken the design and supervision of many forms of structural engineering projects including reinforced concrete, structural steelwork, masonry and general structural timber.

He has completed several refurbishment and conservation projects that have incorporated extensive temporary works, façade retention, underpinning and restoration of existing structures.

On civil engineering projects he has designed and supervised works ranging from site development works, traditional road construction, floating roads, foul & storm water drainage, SuDS works and utility installations.

Barry has acted in the role of Employers Representative & contract administrator for traditional and design / build multi-million-euro projects, using FIDIC, public works, RIAI, EI & bespoke forms of contracts. He has also acted in the role of contract administrator on behalf of the contractor. In these roles Barry has gained valuable experience in claims management and dispute resolution.

Acting as client representative Barry has gained extensive experience in the areas of project development, feasibility studies, land agreements, mapping, Right Of Ways, Easements, Wayleaves, consultation and negotiation with landowners, local authorities and other project stakeholders.

He has worked closely with corporate finance in the preparation of project budgets and the financial close of project funding.

Barry is a problem solver, he brings commitment, energy and lateral thinking to the projects on which he works.

He is a keen sportsman and has ran several marathons over the last few years. He lives in hope that his next marathon will be a sub 3hr 30min. time.
